WESTERN TVET COLLEGE COURSES INTRODUCTION

As defined by this act, Western College (Westcol) is one of 50 public TVET institutions that comprise the Department of Higher Education and Training. The CET Act is a new piece of legislation. Western College, as defined by the CET Act, is a TVET College on the list of Public Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges. Registration numbers are not required or provided by public TVET colleges.

The Further Education and Training (FET) Act, 98 of 1998, governs all FET institutions in South Africa, including both public and private colleges that offer programmes in the National Qualification Framework’s FET and Higher Education and Training (HET) bands (NQF). Act 16 of 2006, which renamed the FET Act, updated it. The law that governs continuing education and training is the Continuous Education and Training (CET) Act, No. 16 of 2006. (as amended).

The mission of Western TVET College is to provide high-quality education and training to both students and the community.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS WESTERN TVET COLLEGE COURSES

NC(V) Course Requirements;

  • Students are allowed to study for a maximum of four years for NC (V) Levels 2, 3, and 4 to account for any topic failures.
  • NQF1 (Grade 9) and AET Level 4 are the minimum entry criteria.
  • The NC (V) policy has led and aligned the entry requirements.
    For qualification admission, a point system will be used.

Requirements for 191 Courses

  • The NATED Policy establishes minimum entry standards.
    N4 will admit students who have completed Grade 12/NC (V) Level 4.
  • Students who have completed grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 and choose to pursue a career as an artisan will be admitted to N1 on a point system.

Requirements for Occupational Courses

  • Admission requirements are based on QCTO/SETA-approved registered Skills Programs/Learnerships.
  • A student who has previously enrolled in NC(V) or Report 191 programmes will only be considered for an Occupational Program if the NC(V) or Report 191 programme has been completed in its entirety (passed all subjects).

Additional Admissions Requirements

  • In order to improve the quality and performance of specialised programmes, the College Council has developed new admission requirements for NC(V) level 2, Report 191 N1, and Report 191 N4 that use a point system.
