ABOUT THEKWINI TVET COLLEGE
As a public technical and vocational education and training institution, Thekwini TVET College aims to meet its skills development mandate by providing high-quality teaching and learning, as well as sound corporate governance. Our vision, purpose, and values serve as a road map for achieving our operational goals, which are in line with DHET’s strategic objectives.
Under Section 10(2)(a) of the Continuing Education and Training Act, No 16 of 2006, as amended, Thekwini TVET College submits its 5-year strategic plan for approval to the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology. The strategic plan and all other applicable legal requirements were based on the National Development Plan (NDP) and its implementation plan, as well as the Post-School Education and Training (PSET) Plan and any other relevant documents.
Thekwini TVET College aspires to support the Department’s strategic objectives and national targets, which include the two sub-outcomes listed below:
Sub-Outcome 2: Improved access to and success in intermediate and high-level learning programmes; and Sub-Outcome 4: Increased availability of intermediate-level skills, with a particular emphasis on artisan skills and entrepreneurship.

THEKWINI TVET COLLEGE COURSES ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Requirements for NC(V) Courses
- Students may study for a total of four years for NC (V) Levels 2, 3, and 4 to make up for any topic failures.
- NQF1 (Grade 9) and AET Level 4 are the minimum entry requirements.
- The NC (V) policy has driven and coordinated the admission requirements.
- To determine qualification admission, a point system will be used.
Requirements for 191 Courses;
- The NATED Policy defines entrance requirements.
- Students who have completed Grade 12/NC (V) Level 4 will be admitted to N4.
- On a point system, students who have finished grades 9, 10, 11, or 12 and choose to pursue a profession as an artisan will be admitted to N1.
Occupational Course Requirements
- Admission requirements are based on QCTO/SETA-approved registered Skills Programs/Learnerships.
- A student who has previously enrolled in NC(V) or Report 191 programmes will only be considered for an Occupational Program if the NC(V) or Report 191 programme has been completed in its entirety (passed all subjects).
Additional Admissions Requirements
- In order to improve the quality and performance of specialised programmes, the College Council has developed new admission requirements for NC(V) level 2, Report 191 N1, and Report 191 N4 that use a point system.
